Who Is Stronger in Season 6 — Miguel or Robby? The Answer Is Messier Than You’d Expect

The argument has been going on since the first season, and it never gets old. When season 6 of Cobra Kai comes out, Miguel Diaz and Robby Keene are no longer just rivals; they’re teammates. This makes the question of who is stronger feel less important and more interesting at the same time. Still, the fans never really let it go.

In season 6, these are the real events. Robby beats Miguel in the dojo playoff, making him the official male captain for Miyagi-Do going into the Sekai Taikai. There is no question about that result. Robby technically won that game, and it’s important that he did so in a structured, competitive setting with real stakes. But it seems like building an entire argument around that one result misses the bigger picture.

During the same season, Miguel shows a different kind of strength. People are interested in how consistently and clearly he fights top international fighters, especially Axel. During a fight, Miguel is usually clear, quick, and hard to understand when he is not feeling very upset. His reach is longer, his reflexes are faster, and he can naturally guess what an opponent will do next. There is a lot at stake in that karate match.

It’s worth taking a closer look at the captain fight. Miguel was ahead by two points before Tory got close to the mat. Most people agreed that Robby was having mental problems during those early exchanges. Something changed when he heard that Tory was okay. He locked in. The game changed. He won. That brings up a good question: was that proof that Robby is the better fighter, or proof that Robby is almost impossible to beat when he has his mind clear? There’s a difference.

It’s possible for both to be true at the same time. Miguel has been the more reliable player all season. A lot of the time, he doesn’t need a certain emotional reset to fight at a high level. He always shows up, even when the pressure isn’t coming from inside. Robby, on the other hand, has a ceiling that is hard to change. The fight with Kwon in part two is the best example of how he changes into a different fighter when he is on full focus. Technical, in control, and reading every exchange. At times, he seems to be able to fight at a level that not even Miguel has reached.

Both of these things were meant to be tense in season 6, which is frustrating. People don’t get a clear answer from the show, which may be the point. They have been growing up together for years, but they have had different ideas, been through different traumas, and have different ways of dealing with anger and discipline. Their fight has never been about who is stronger. The question has always been what happens when one person can’t stay present during a fight.

Fans clearly feel like they have to pick a winner, and the evidence points to Miguel as the better fighter overall. Over the course of the season, he has more wins than losses, and the one loss he does have can be partly explained by an emotional breakdown rather than a physical mismatch. That Robby who showed up for that Kwon fight, on the other hand, is not someone you would want to dismiss. That Robby is not at all like that version of him.

Season 6 doesn’t give either character a clear crown. What it gives us instead is a rivalry that still feels unfinished and alive, which is probably exactly what the writers were going for.

Sierra has a strong, deep connection to Kansas City, from the neighborhoods east of Troost to the discussions that take place in the city hall halls. Sierra, who is presently enrolled at the University of Kansas to pursue a degree in Political Science, applies the rigor of academic study to her journalism. She writes about politics in Missouri and Kansas as someone who genuinely cares about what happens to the people in these communities—the policies that impact them, the leaders who represent them, and the civic forces influencing their futures—rather than as an outsider watching from a distance. Her editorial coverage encompasses state-level policy, local government, and the national political currents that permeate bi-state regional life. Whether it's a city council vote or a Senate race, she has a special gift for turning complex policy language into writing that feels urgent, relatable, and worthwhile. Sierra seldom sits still off the page. She claims that playing soccer on a regular basis has sharpened her instincts for political reporting because of the sport's teamwork, strategy, and requirement to read a changing game in real time. She's probably somewhere in Kansas City with her friends when she's not writing or on the pitch, discovering new reasons to adore a city she already knows so well.
