Who Is the Strongest Cobra Kai Person? The Answer Will Surprise You

Every fan of Cobra Kai has at least one argument like this. Perhaps in a Reddit thread that managed to receive sixty responses, or perhaps in a group chat following a season finale. Who is the strongest fighter in the Cobra Kai universe? That seems like a straightforward question. However, the layers quickly accumulate once you begin to take it seriously.

The concept of “strongest” has always been complicated in the show. Cobra Kai does a better job than most martial arts dramas at demonstrating that technical prowess isn’t always the deciding factor. A number of factors come into play, including passion, mental state, who is coaching from the corner, and occasionally just plain bad luck. The show makes you believe that a fighter can lose to someone who is objectively less skilled. This contributes to the enduring nature of the ranking controversy.

When it comes to the entire universe, including the Karate Kid movies, Mr. Miyagi is superior to everyone. The character is frequently referred to as the “ceiling,” the one person in the franchise who has never really been defeated in a fair competition. Reddit users are so aware of this that one thread deliberately left him out in order to facilitate the conversation. One fan described him as the “cheat code.” The conversation becomes genuinely fascinating once you put Miyagi aside.

Chozen Toguchi is widely regarded in the fandom as the best fighter of the Cobra Kai era among the adult senseis. While Johnny and Daniel were the ones receiving screen time, Chozen lived in relative obscurity on Okinawa for years, so this is worth pausing on.

However, the show revealed Chozen’s status when he returned. He pushed Terry Silver into a corner, held off several senseis at once, outpaced Daniel in sparring, and only lost because Silver cheated. The final detail is important. In a clean fight, Chozen was not defeated. He was defeated by a shady strategy. A fighter’s reputation is usually unaffected by that.

Sensei Wolf, who sits directly behind Chozen, merits greater recognition than he frequently gets in these discussions. Johnny Lawrence acknowledged that Wolf, a seasoned cage fighter and three-time world champion, was the hardest opponent he had ever faced. Only because Johnny ultimately defeated Wolf in the Sekai Taikai finale—however unlikely—does Wolf lose points in the ranking. Terry Silver, a truly dangerous fighter whose willingness to fight dirty inflated his win record in ways that complicate a fair assessment, also belongs in this tier.

Daniel LaRusso and Johnny Lawrence are practically on the same tier. Every attempt to establish one as unquestionably superior to the other usually depends on interpreting a single scene out of context. The show has made them roughly equal on several occasions, including sparring draws and simultaneous knockouts. By the end of the series, Johnny might have a slight advantage in raw aggression, but Daniel’s skill at defense and his capacity to pick up new skills fast keep him level.

The younger generation sees things more clearly. Robby Keene and Miguel Diaz alternate wins throughout the series, with Robby emerging victorious in their final captain’s bout in Season 6. However, that is further complicated by Miguel’s performance in the Sekai Taikai finals, where he defeated Axel, the most physically dominant teen fighter the show has ever produced. For what it’s worth, Axl Kovaňvić was arguably the most physically dominant pure teenage fighter in the history of the franchise.

As you watch all six seasons come together, you get the impression that the show never really tried to identify the strongest fighter. That was never really relevant. Chozen, Johnny, and Daniel, the senseis at the top, all rose there via years of development, setbacks, and sometimes picking up tips from their competitors. That may be a more truthful response to the query. The person who has never lost is not the strongest Cobra Kai. It’s the one who suffered, grew, and recovered.

By doing so, the dialog remains open. This is most likely exactly what the show intended.

Sierra, who is presently enrolled at the University of Kansas to pursue a degree in Political Science, applies the rigor of academic study to her journalism. She writes about politics in Missouri and Kansas as someone who genuinely cares about what happens to the people in these communities—the policies that impact them, the leaders who represent them, and the civic forces influencing their futures—rather than as an outsider watching from a distance. Her editorial coverage encompasses state-level policy, local government, and the national political currents that permeate bi-state regional life. Whether it's a city council vote or a Senate race, she has a special gift for turning complex policy language into writing that feels urgent, relatable, and worthwhile. Sierra seldom sits still off the page. She claims that playing soccer on a regular basis has sharpened her instincts for political reporting because of the sport's teamwork, strategy, and requirement to read a changing game in real time. She's probably somewhere in Kansas City with her friends when she's not writing or on the pitch, discovering new reasons to adore a city she already knows so well.
