Will There Be a Cobra Kai Season 7? Netflix Has Confirmed What Fans Didn’t Want to Hear

When a show you truly love ends, you experience a certain type of grief. It was a quiet, reluctant acceptance, not the dramatic, hand-wringing kind. That’s probably the most accurate way to sum up how millions of Cobra Kai fans felt when Netflix officially ended the show after six seasons. Both the streaming behemoth and the three creators permanently ended the Cobra Kai universe. There won’t be a seventh season. It is dark in the dojos.

There was no abrupt cancelation press release announcing the decision. It was revealed in January 2023, concurrently with Netflix’s decision to renew the series for a sixth season. In fact, it’s a detail worth considering. The creators were not taken off the air. The exit was their choice. It matters that there is a difference.

In an unusually direct post on X, co-creator Jon Hurwitz stated that the showrunners informed Netflix that it was ending, not Netflix. “We’ve always wanted to end Cobra Kai on our own terms,” he stated, “and we are grateful we have the opportunity to do so.” That kind of creative control is genuinely uncommon in an industry where most shows are pulled mid-story or dragged past their natural conclusion. Perhaps that’s precisely why the last season felt so finished.

The 15 episodes of Season 6, which was released in three parts between July 2024 and February 2025, were intended to wrap up all of the major storylines and were constructed as a proper send-off. Knowing that Part 3 was the final batch, it carried a particular weight when it was released on a Thursday in February. Before Netflix picked it up and made it one of the platform’s signature hits, the show had come a long way from its modest YouTube Premium beginnings, where it debuted to mild surprise and immense nostalgia.

It makes sense that some fans think the conclusion was hurried at times. Viewers who wish certain characters, like Hawk, Sam, and Kenny, had more breathing room can be found in Reddit threads dating back more than a year. Because of the show’s popularity, many fans are still holding out hope that Season 7 will be possible, even tho it’s uncommon in the streaming era for shows to end so definitively on their own terms. That hope makes sense. Additionally, it is currently misplaced.

Nevertheless, the creators have been transparent about the fact that this seems to be just the start of what they have dubbed the “Miyagiverse.” A prequel series based on Mr. Miyagi and other character-focused spinoff ideas were already being discussed as early as July 2024. It’s still genuinely unclear if any of those move forward. Hollywood is full of ideas for spinoffs that never materialize. However, both sides are hungry.

Additionally, the franchise is growing in theaters. In May 2025, a new Karate Kid movie starring Ralph Macchio and Jackie Chan was scheduled to be released, with Ben Wang playing the lead role. It appears that the Miyagi-verse is simply evolving rather than dying. It remains to be seen if that will satisfy fans who desired to see Johnny Lawrence on screen once more.

“The Karate Kid spirit was in every scene” of the last season, according to Ralph Macchio, and Netflix called the sixth season the “culmination of 40 years of Karate Kid storytelling.” When studios want the conclusion to feel earned rather than abandoned, they use language like that. It might have been successful. It’s also possible that fans won’t experience that sense of closure until the universe is given space to breathe again by something new, such as a movie or spinoff.

As of right now, Cobra Kai Season 7 is not available. Even tho the sentiment surrounding it isn’t quite settled yet, the answer is obvious. Unlike most shows, this one ended on its own terms. Even if it doesn’t make letting go easier, that is worth something.

She writes about politics in Missouri and Kansas as someone who genuinely cares about what happens to the people in these communities—the policies that impact them, the leaders who represent them, and the civic forces influencing their futures—rather than as an outsider watching from a distance. Her editorial coverage encompasses state-level policy, local government, and the national political currents that permeate bi-state regional life. Whether it's a city council vote or a Senate race, she has a special gift for turning complex policy language into writing that feels urgent, relatable, and worthwhile.
