Is Cobra Kai Coming Back? Here’s Everything We Know So Far

The last five episodes of Season 6 of Cobra Kai were released on Netflix on February 13, 2025. Six seasons and sixty-five episodes. For a man who was essentially the antagonist in a pair of skeleton Halloween tights in 1984, seven years of karate competitions, dojo rivalries, father-son heartbreak, and an unexpectedly poignant redemption arc. The run has been impressive. People are now curious as to whether it’s truly over. For the time being, the short answer is yes. The longer response is far more intriguing.

Since the conclusion, the creators, Josh Heald, Jon Hurwitz, and Hayden Schlossberg, have been cautious about what they say. Season 6 has been characterized as a conclusion rather than a farewell.

Hurwitz stated in an interview with the Television Academy that the group has “a lot of ideas about where we can take this story in another iteration.” That’s not precisely ambiguous, but it’s also not precisely a confirmation. It’s the kind of thing that keeps a fan base curious, optimistic, and hesitant to move on—exactly where you want them.

Ralph Macchio has also been measured. Instead of saying “goodbye,” he said “see you later,” which could have a deeper meaning or just be a publicity stunt. It could have some significance given the numbers. In its first week on Netflix, Season 6, Part 1 reportedly received 1.1 billion minutes of viewing. Shows with that kind of pull don’t simply vanish into thin air.

Instead, there is an expansion rather than a conclusion. Macchio returns as Daniel LaRusso in the feature film Karate Kid: Legends, costarring with Jackie Chan as Mr. Han. Rather than being a direct sequel to Cobra Kai, it is positioned as an extension of the larger universe. Even though Cobra Kai in particular has closed, the Karate Kid franchise, which has been around for more than 40 years, appears determined to continue in some capacity.

On Reddit and social media, where discussions about a possible Season 7 or a reunion movie frequently appear, there is also real fan pressure growing. The Psych model, a popular television program that ended and then reappeared as a series of films years later, has been cited by some fans. According to reports, Macchio himself made a passing reference to a similar strategy. It’s debatable whether that actually occurs, but the analogy makes sense. There is an emotional commitment.

Beyond the nostalgic appeal, Cobra Kai was truly surprising for how well it functioned as a show on its own terms. More recognition should be given to William Zabka’s portrayal of Johnny Lawrence. He transformed a character who had been written as a flat antagonist into a complex and strangely charming character—the kind of guy you would find annoying in real life but couldn’t stop watching on screen. He was the focal point of the show’s best seasons. It lost some of that edge when it leaned more toward the younger group.

However, the creators were open about the boundaries of the story’s potential by the time Season 6 debuted. Schlossberg put it simply: if you keep getting worse, you’ll eventually be holding a karate competition in space. With the Sekai Taikai final in Barcelona serving as the backdrop, it was a creative decision to end it on their terms.

So, will Cobra Kai return? Not anytime soon, not as a seventh season. However, there is a plausible argument that this universe—these characters, this tone, this blend of real emotion and self-aware cheese—is not finished. The franchise has a history of making comebacks. Once before, it returned in a way that was far more significant than anyone had anticipated. It’s possible that it will find a way once more.

Sierra has a strong, deep connection to Kansas City, from the neighborhoods east of Troost to the discussions that take place in the city hall halls. Sierra, who is presently enrolled at the University of Kansas to pursue a degree in Political Science, applies the rigor of academic study to her journalism. She writes about politics in Missouri and Kansas as someone who genuinely cares about what happens to the people in these communities—the policies that impact them, the leaders who represent them, and the civic forces influencing their futures—rather than as an outsider watching from a distance. Her editorial coverage encompasses state-level policy, local government, and the national political currents that permeate bi-state regional life. Whether it's a city council vote or a Senate race, she has a special gift for turning complex policy language into writing that feels urgent, relatable, and worthwhile. Sierra seldom sits still off the page. She claims that playing soccer on a regular basis has sharpened her instincts for political reporting because of the sport's teamwork, strategy, and requirement to read a changing game in real time. She's probably somewhere in Kansas City with her friends when she's not writing or on the pitch, discovering new reasons to adore a city she already knows so well.
