Botticelli Foods Pistachio Butter Recall – What Every Walmart Shopper Needs to Know Right Now

It began with a standard inspection, as these things frequently do. Three jars of Bettergoods Pistachio Nut Butter were taken off the shelf by a state agriculture official in Florida, who then sent them for testing. What was returned was not favorable. Within days, Botticelli Foods, an Italian grocery product importer with headquarters in New York, issued a formal recall due to the presence of salmonella. In the dramatic sense, it wasn’t a crisis. There were no reports of illness. However, a recall is a recall, and for consumers in 19 states, the jar with the pink label that is currently in their kitchen has suddenly become a reason to check.

A 6.7-ounce glass jar of Bettergoods Pistachio Nut Butter with lot code LB028ACP04, UPC 194346207961, and an expiration date of January 28, 2027 is the specific product that is being recalled. Only Walmart stores in Alabama, Alaska, Arizona, Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Idaho, Kansas, Mississippi, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, Nevada, New Mexico, Oregon, South Dakota, Tennessee, Washington, and Wyoming carried the nut butter. This particular lot is the only one impacted. The recall does not apply to any other Bettergoods pistachio products.

Based in Assoro, Italy, Gustibus Alimentari Srl produced the pistachio butter. It was imported by Botticelli. It was distributed by Walmart. This supply chain, which consists of a foreign manufacturer, a domestic importer, and a major retailer, is rather typical for a private-label product. Notably, a state-level inspection program that tests goods taken straight from store shelves discovered the contamination rather than internal quality control. It’s worth pausing to consider that. Something that had not been discovered earlier in the import or production process was discovered by the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services.

After being informed, Botticelli Foods acted swiftly, declaring in public that they started a recall right away and are collaborating with Gustibus and the FDA to look into how contamination happened and avoid similar problems in the future. That’s the appropriate answer. The precise stage of the process—manufacturing, packaging, shipping, and storage—where Salmonella first appeared is still unknown. Such investigations are time-consuming, and the results are not always tidy.

Even in cases where no illnesses have been reported, salmonella should not be disregarded. The bacteria can cause diarrhea, vomiting, cramping in the stomach, and fever. Symptoms usually start to show up six hours to six days after exposure. It is extremely unpleasant but manageable for the majority of healthy adults. It can become truly dangerous for young children, the elderly, or anyone with a weakened immune system, sometimes necessitating hospitalization. Salmonella is responsible for a significant portion of food recalls in the United States each year, and the CDC estimates that it infects well over 100 million people worldwide each year.

The advice is straightforward and non-negotiable if you purchased this product: avoid eating it. For a complete refund, return it to the Walmart store where you bought it. The receipt is not necessary. During business hours, Botticelli Foods can be contacted by phone or email with any questions.

The specifics of any one recollection often obscure a larger point. Programs for routine state testing, like the one that led to this recall, are operating as intended. They are identifying issues that were missed by previous checkpoints. The system as a whole is not failing because of that. It is proof that at least one component of the system functions. Depending on how much pistachio butter you’ve already consumed, that may or may not be comforting.

She writes about politics in Missouri and Kansas as someone who genuinely cares about what happens to the people in these communities—the policies that impact them, the leaders who represent them, and the civic forces influencing their futures—rather than as an outsider watching from a distance. Her editorial coverage encompasses state-level policy, local government, and the national political currents that permeate bi-state regional life. Whether it's a city council vote or a Senate race, she has a special gift for turning complex policy language into writing that feels urgent, relatable, and worthwhile. Sierra seldom sits still off the page. She claims that playing soccer on a regular basis has sharpened her instincts for political reporting because of the sport's teamwork, strategy, and requirement to read a changing game in real time. She's probably somewhere in Kansas City with her friends when she's not writing or on the pitch, discovering new reasons to adore a city she already knows so well.
