Billy Evans Age: The 34-Year-Old Hotel Heir Who Refused to Walk Away from Elizabeth Holmes

Billy Evans, who was born in 1991 or 1992, is 34 years old. Despite this, he has spent the majority of his adult life living under the shadow of a narrative that isn’t really his own. With the release of Nathan Fielder and Lance Oppenheim’s documentary You Can See Everything, which presents Evans as someone worth paying close attention to rather than as a supporting character, that is beginning to change.

It’s easy to undervalue the comfort he had growing up. His grandparents established Evans Hotels, a small but well-known luxury hotel chain in the San Diego region, in 1953. That’s the type of institutional wealth that usually doesn’t make headlines or cause a stir in Silicon Valley. Evans received a Bachelor of Science in Economics from MIT between 2010 and 2015. He also attended Fudan University in Shanghai to study Chinese literature and language along the way, indicating that he was more than just a ticket puncher and was genuinely interested in the world.

When he first met Elizabeth Holmes in 2017 at a Fleet Week charity event, he was 25 years old. By his own admission, he was torn. Theranos was already the subject of loud and damaging accusations. In 2022, he informed the sentencing judge that the person he knew did not fit the description in the media. There is no clear answer to the question of whether that was naivete or sincere conviction. Nevertheless, after roughly half a year of friendship, something changed. He remained.

Following a Taylor Swift Reputation tour performance in August 2018, Evans reportedly purchased a silver snake ring at the event and used it for the proposal. Holmes claims that she asked him “twenty times” if he was certain, and the detail seems almost too specific to be made up. There’s a feeling that they both knew this wouldn’t be simple even back then.

In July 2021, their son William was born. Three months before Holmes started her 11-year sentence at Federal Prison Camp Bryan in Texas, their daughter Invicta arrived in February 2023. Holmes has made it apparent that the pregnancies weren’t planned actions. That might be precisely the case, but it’s also possible that the timing will continue to be a footnote that people keep returning to.

What Evans has been doing in the interim is a tale unto itself. He has been the CEO of Haemanthus, a biotechnology startup that has been developing “AI-native sensors for health” since October 2022. This technology uses light to read thousands of biomarkers at once. In May 2025, the company made a special effort to clarify that she has “zero involvement,” given the clear connection to Holmes and Theranos. Evans is obviously aware of the comparison, regardless of its fairness. He is 34 years old, manages a blood test business, and spends weekends visiting his partner in federal prison. For anyone, that is an uncommon set of circumstances.

Fielder asks Evans directly in the You Can See Everything trailer if Holmes has ever lied to him. Without hesitation, Evans declines. That could be loyalty. Perhaps it’s more difficult to identify. In any case, at thirty-four, Billy Evans has made decisions that have taken him in a direction that few could have predicted.

Born in Kansas City, Sierra Foster writes about politics and serves as Senior Editor at kbsd6.com. She was raised paying attention to this city, not just living in it. Sierra has a strong, deep connection to Kansas City, from the neighborhoods east of Troost to the discussions that take place in the city hall halls. Sierra, who is presently enrolled at the University of Kansas to pursue a degree in Political Science, applies the rigor of academic study to her journalism. She writes about politics in Missouri and Kansas as someone who genuinely cares about what happens to the people in these communities—the policies that impact them, the leaders who represent them, and the civic forces influencing their futures—rather than as an outsider watching from a distance. Her editorial coverage encompasses state-level policy, local government, and the national political currents that permeate bi-state regional life. Whether it's a city council vote or a Senate race, she has a special gift for turning complex policy language into writing that feels urgent, relatable, and worthwhile. Sierra seldom sits still off the page. She claims that playing soccer on a regular basis has sharpened her instincts for political reporting because of the sport's teamwork, strategy, and requirement to read a changing game in real time. She's probably somewhere in Kansas City with her friends when she's not writing or on the pitch, discovering new reasons to adore a city she already knows so well.
