The Lollapalooza 2026 Lineup Is Here — And It’s a Lot to Process

In late July, Grant Park fills up in a different way. The air along the lake gets thicker, the grass near the main stage turns to dirt, and Chicago stops feeling like a city and more like a place to visit. This is what Lollapalooza has done to the area since it moved here permanently in 2005, and the 2026 edition, which runs from July 30 to August 2, has the kind of lineup that makes the weekend feel like it’s really worth planning around.

This year’s headliners are Charli XCX on Friday, Lorde on Thursday, Tate McRae on Sunday, Olivia Dean on Saturday, The Smashing Pumpkins at the Bud Light stage on Friday night, Jennie on Saturday, John Summit, and Tate McRae on Sunday. That’s a lot of music: pop, electronic, alternative, and K-pop. It seems like the festival organizers didn’t want to put all their eggs in one sound or group of people. It depends on what you came for to see if that makes the four days flow together or be a little disorganized.

The one with the most expectations is Lorde’s Thursday night show as the main act. She has been picky about her live shows over the years, so a Lollapalooza headliner set on the T-Mobile stage at 8:30 p.m. is a big deal. It’s not a big surprise that Charli XCX is taking Friday at 8:40 p.m., but it’s still a big room to fill, and she usually does a good job of it. Tate McRae’s closing on Sunday at 8:45 p.m. was probably the booking that caused the most debate within the company. She’s been moving quickly, and this set could either make that path stronger or show her the ceiling. It’s hard to say ahead of time.

The undercard is where things really get interesting after the main acts. On Saturday at the Bud Light stage, Turnstile and Ethel Cain play back-to-back sets that are surprisingly interesting. It looks like the Clipse show on Saturday was booked at the last minute but works out perfectly. This weekend has a lot of great British indie music. On Thursday, Wet Leg plays, on Saturday, Wolf Alice plays, and on Sunday, beabadoobee plays. On the electronic side, Major Lazer’s show at Perry’s on Friday and The Chainsmokers’ show on Sunday both point to later than planned nights.

There is also K-pop to take note of. This grouping—Jennie on Saturday as the main act, aespa on Sunday at the Allianz stage, and I-DLE on Friday—is clear, and it shows how the festival’s audience has changed. Five years ago, this would have seemed like a test. It now reads like a simple acknowledgement of the people who show up to these events.

There are eight stages with the full schedule. Perry’s is where the electronic music is played, and the BMI and Airbnb stages are where the more discovery-oriented bookings happen. These are the sets where you walk over without knowing exactly what you’re going to see. When it works, that’s always been one of the best things about Lollapalooza. Hulu and Disney+ are livestreaming some sets from Charli XCX, Lorde, The xx, Tate McRae, Jennie, and other artists for people who can’t make it to Chicago.

When you see how everything is set up, it’s hard not to think that Lollapalooza 2026 is trying to be a lot of different festivals at once. That’s not really a criticism; it’s just a note about how big the event has become.
