Biddle v. Disney Settlement: Millions of Streaming Subscribers Could Get Cash — Here’s How to Claim Yours

Most streaming subscribers don’t know about it yet, but something quietly big is happening in the world of streaming. You may be able to get some of your money back if you paid for YouTube TV or DirecTV Stream in the last few years. This is because of a federal class action lawsuit.

The Biddle v. Disney settlement is a $50 million deal to end the antitrust lawsuit that subscribers of YouTube TV, DirecTV Stream, and FuboTV brought against The Walt Disney Company. The lawsuit says Disney did things that raised the prices of Streaming Live Pay Television services unfairly, which is against federal antitrust law and several state consumer protection laws. Disney has said they did nothing wrong. They agreed to pay $50 million anyway, which says something in and of itself.

The settlement affects two separate groups. People who bought a YouTube TV subscription between April 1, 2019, and March 31, 2026 are part of the YouTube TV Settlement Class. At the same time, people who signed up for DirecTV Stream, DirecTV Now, or AT&T TV Now are part of the DirecTV Stream Settlement Class. If you belong to either group, you might be able to file a claim and get a pro rata cash payment, which means that the amount you get is based on how long you were a subscriber. You could get more if you paid for a longer time.

Take a moment to think about what this lawsuit is really about. Streaming services have quietly become one of the biggest costs for families over the last five years. What began as a less expensive alternative to cable has slowly crept up to prices that many Americans would pay for cable. In this case, the plaintiffs said that Disney’s actions, especially how it used its business relationships and content library, caused prices to be higher than they should have been in a truly competitive market. We might never know if that argument would have worked in court or not. The settlement took place before there was a final answer to that question.

As cases like this play out, it seems like the full cost of media consolidation is rarely calculated in real time. It shows up on subscribers‘ monthly bills, but they don’t always understand why prices keep going in the same direction.

The steps to get your share are easy to understand. Subscribers who are eligible must send in a valid claim form by September 8, 2026. The form can be sent online or by mail with a postmark. That deadline is for both filing a claim and choosing not to participate in the settlement if you’d rather keep your legal options open. The deadline is now December 1, 2026 for people who don’t want to opt out but still want to object to the terms of the settlement.

One important thing to keep in mind is that the plaintiffs from FuboTV have not reached a settlement with Disney yet, so they are not covered by this agreement. Their case goes on separately.

The court hasn’t made a decision on the lawsuit’s main points yet. A settlement is not the same as finding a defendant responsible, and this difference is easy to miss in all the other stuff going on. Still, the settlement is a real, if small, way of holding the company accountable for the millions of subscribers who paid monthly fees for years that they might not have chosen if the market had been different.

If you had a subscription during the time period that was covered, the easiest thing to do is make sure you are eligible and file a claim before September 30. The process doesn’t ask for much. The possible payment asks for even less in return.

Sierra has a strong, deep connection to Kansas City, from the neighborhoods east of Troost to the discussions that take place in the city hall halls. Sierra, who is presently enrolled at the University of Kansas to pursue a degree in Political Science, applies the rigor of academic study to her journalism. She writes about politics in Missouri and Kansas as someone who genuinely cares about what happens to the people in these communities—the policies that impact them, the leaders who represent them, and the civic forces influencing their futures—rather than as an outsider watching from a distance. Her editorial coverage encompasses state-level policy, local government, and the national political currents that permeate bi-state regional life. Whether it's a city council vote or a Senate race, she has a special gift for turning complex policy language into writing that feels urgent, relatable, and worthwhile. Sierra seldom sits still off the page. She claims that playing soccer on a regular basis has sharpened her instincts for political reporting because of the sport's teamwork, strategy, and requirement to read a changing game in real time. She's probably somewhere in Kansas City with her friends when she's not writing or on the pitch, discovering new reasons to adore a city she already knows so well.
